SUPERMAN LUVS HOUSEWIVES This latest O.titude collection is dedicated - with mockery - to stereotypes. Above all, it’s dedicated to male and female characters from outmoded fantasy. Nostalgic face powder and dusty tones blend into browns, along with bright ruby reds combined with dark greens. The sixties are in the air, perhaps not with the shapes but most definitely with their content. Prints evoking former women’s magazines that were in fashion at the time tell us about the sixties. Maroon multi-washed wool jersey and sanded satin weaves speak out coyly and with inevitable surprise about cooking, domestic matters and how damned wonderful it is to do these for your man, all in perfect Brooklyn jargon. The shapes of ideal men appear in a sequence of geometric and flowery ‘abstract expressionism’ type prints, between braids, velvet ribbons and petersham - ‘God-man’ with a third eye on an elasticised pinstripe sheath dress, ‘Superman’ on a double gauze skirt with strips of multicoloured cloth, and the ‘Perfect Man’, headless but still classy on a retro style calf-length dress. It’s winter and we don’t wish to mention its symbols, but what about the most recognizable signs? Warm jersey and double or triple teased cotton have become tools for fashioning fun creations. Between prints that are halfway between a wallpaper effect and brocade, Christmas baubles hand-embroidered on organza and shining saplings made of seed-pearls appear unexpectedly, as well as flower decorations of soft stone-washed fabric interwoven with threads of iridescent purl. This is a multifarious, many-sided celebration, as always in line with O.titude’s mischievous custom. |
